Schlesisches Museum zu Görlitz (Silesian Museum in Görlitz)

Welcome to the Silesian Museum in Görlitz!

You are invited to travel with us through 1,000 years of turbulent history and diverse culture of this amazing region situated in the heart of Europe. Come and marvel at traditional craftsmanship, for which Silesia became famous worldwide; such as gold work from Wroclaw, cut pageantry glass made at glassworks in the Giant Mountains, or the brightly painted faience from Prószków. You will also learn about art casting done at the Gliwice Ironworks, pottery made in Boleslawiec and porcelain from Walbrzych County. Wroclaw, the historical capital of Silesia, presents itself as a city of Arts and Sciences. It has made a significant contribution to the art of Classical Moderne. Our museum, therefore, has important works by artists such as Otto Mueller, Oskar Moll and Johannes Molzahn on display.
The traditions of Silesia are a joint heritage of Germans, Polish and Czechs. We at the museum are looking for new paths in approaching this old cultural landscape. You are cordially invited to talk with us about the past and the future of Silesia.
