The Saxon Fire Brigade Museum in Zeithain near Riesa is one of the largest of its kind in Germany. The number and variety of exhibits is equally impressive – visitors can see fire engines from more than 100 years ago, as well as fire hoses, equipment, models, clothing and dioramas. The collection of Saxon fire brigade medals and decorations from 1885 to the present day is one of the museum's unique features. The open-air park also exhibits the last surviving firefighting train of the Reichsbahn and an agricultural and firefighting aircraft from Interflug. A garden railway runs around the firefighting pond. The covered exhibition area covers more than 3,000 m², providing a sheltered home for examples of almost all firefighting and special vehicles manufactured in the GDR. The museum, which opened in 1994, is run by the Riesa Firefighting History Association.
