Description

Two worlds, one experience ...

The popular Karl-May-Museum with its two fascinating worlds is located near Radebeul Ost station. The Collection of Native American art and culture situated in the Wild West log cabin, "Villa Bärenfett", is unique of its kind in Europe.

On display are over 800 ethnologic objects dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Admire, for instance, eagle-feather hoods, tomahawks, moccasins, life-size Native American figures or a painting of the Battle of the Little Bighorn. Featuring original objects, the exhibition at Karl May's place of residence, Villa "Shatterhand", provides a wonderful insight into his fantasy world. The best known items are probably the "Silver Nails Rifle", "Bear Slayer" and "Henry Short Rifle". May’s study decorated with oriental furniture, his valuable library and the reception room containing artwork by Sascha Schneider let visitors explore his life on their own. Karl May, who was the creator of Chief Winnetou, is still the most widely read German writer of adventure stories. For your visit, we recommend
• our museum store for connoisseurs of Karl May
• the "Spurenpfad" (puzzle trail) for children
• Family riddle to earn a price
• Karl May Festival and family days
