The Mining Technology Park, located in Leipzig's Neuseenland, impressively demonstrates the extraction cycle of a lignite opencast mine. At the heart of the exhibition are two large machines from the former Espenhain opencast mine – a bucket wheel excavator and a spreader. Only in Großpösna can you still see a track laying machine that was used to lay tracks in the opencast mine. The special ‘Works Railway Operation’ tour takes you on a unique journey through the world of spoil and coal transport. A train driver recounts his everyday work, explains each switch in the technology and tells exciting anecdotes about accidents and derailments. As a souvenir, you will receive an authorisation certificate for train driver/signalman No. 1.
