A town for the whole family to discover …Oschatz is situated in picturesque northern Saxony, where the narrow-gauge Döllnitz railway and “Wild Robert” go full steam ahead through the landscape, and the towers of the St. Aegidien Church can be seen from afar. There are many things to discover and experience here! The renovated historic Old Town fascinates guests from all over. City hall with its gable from the Renaissance era, which was designed by the famous Dresden architect, Gottfried Semper, the beautiful burgher houses, one of Saxon’s oldest inns “Gasthaus zum Schwan”, the Vogthaus as the oldest stone house built in the secular design of Central Germany, and the medieval fountain on the Neumarkt are only some of the highlights.
In Central Germany’s only scale museum, the Stadt- und Waagenmuseum with its historical building ensemble that consists of the Rats and Amstfronfeste, rests of the old city wall with wall-walk, the accessible watchtower and the bailey garden, guests can quench their thirst for knowledge about the city’s history and how scales are built, a craft that dates back on a century-old tradition. Visitors have an amazing view of Oschatz and its surroundings from the historic tower apartment, which can be reached after climbing up 199 steps of the 75m high southern tower of the St. Aegidien Church. Cultural events of all kinds are held in Oschatz’s town hall, the Thomas Müntzer Haus. Take a trip with the narrow-gauge railroad from Mügeln or Glossen to Oschatz. Make a stopover in Thalheim and visit the ostrich farm, then hike past the deserted mystical and hidden Osterlant castle, which is located on the outskirts of the town, and on to Oschatz.
The residents of Oschatz look forward to your visit!
